WACA Redevelopment Reaches Topping Out, Opens Perth Venue Path 2026

Construction crews have reached the highest point of the new building at the WACA Ground, completing the topping out stage of the Improvement Project on level three.

This step forward matters now because the venue is scheduled to open in November 2025, giving Perth CBD residents and visitors a fresh option for matches, training and community programs during the 2026 season. The project forms part of the $1.7B Perth City Deal and includes a City of Perth contribution of $25 million toward the aquatic facility.

From the completed structure users will see across the Perth CBD skyline toward Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium, placing the site at the centre of the city's existing sport and entertainment corridor.

Facilities confirmed for opening

Once finished the project will supply a boutique multi-use sport and entertainment venue with 10,000 capacity. Additional elements include a 10-lane indoor centre for high-performance and community sport, a resort-style aquatic facility with a six-lane outdoor 50m pool, an indoor learn-to-swim pool and waterslides, plus a public café and a community health and fitness facility overlooking the ground. A revitalised museum, integration of Aboriginal cultural narrative and an all-abilities playground complete the listed offerings.

Season outlook for local users

With the November 2025 target date met, the venue is positioned to host early 2026 fixtures and programs without further delay. Perth CBD sport groups and families can plan around the new indoor centre, outdoor pool and café spaces for training sessions, casual use and small-scale events. Details on bookings and programming will be released closer to opening by the project partners.
